Great settings for the cartoon look - I know it can take time to get that right (and can change from shot to shot). Personally, I'd lose the Japanese connection (ie just the characters ) as it sends out a confusing message. I like the shots of the individuals during the slide solo - they contribute to the vibe of a band who enjoy playing together. Edits are good (I liked the cuts to the drummer as he hits and choke's the crash. What you've got is good, but it's all md-shot. I'd like a lot...

And what upload speed do you get when you run your speed test. What frame rate are you trying to stream? (I don't have a solution, I'm just staggered theres' even a possibility of streaming 4K live from what is, I asume, a domestic connection)

Sorry I can't help with any specific advice, but 10000 per hour will equate to about 10% ata frame rate of 25fps so something is definitely wrong!

And try not to be daunted by how "complex" HitFilm is. It's not really - like MS Word and typing a letter, you probably only need to know about 5% in order to produce perfectly good result (assuming what you've shot is perfectly good  ) Initially (unless you want to jump in with video effects) avoid anything to do with "composites" and you'll be up and running in no time. DaVinci Resolve is another free possibility, but requires a bit of oomph in your computer. (PS Also in my 60s - it...

Made for a 10 to 3 competition where we had to make a 3 min film from supplied 10 mins of random clips. Please don't post answers here - I'll do so in a few days.

Grazvydas, whilst I understand your desire to reach as many people as possible, posting your new venture in three separate sections here will only serve to annoy. Therefore I have deleted one of your posts and merged my original response (and your respone to that) into this thread. Please refrain from posting about it in other threads as it hinders sensible discussion. Thank you

Looked interesting then "upload your video" 1. We have to trust you tro look after it securely 2. That's the bit which will slow the whole process down such that it's quicker to log the traditional way. Or have I missed something?

Great to see another video from you. Full of life and it really feels like you are talking to me, enthusing about all the best bits of your trip. The majority of the film is these personal vlogs and it is all the stronger for it. Good images and (generally) clear sound. I have a few minor gripes though (as you'd expect from me). I thought the intermediate bits, the links/montages etc, whilst edited very well were too busy and the music too thump-thump heavy for the subject matter. I might...

Sorry I've never had to source motion graphics or any stock footage. However if my experience sourcing appropriate music is anything to go by, expect to spend a LOT of time searching for what you want - at least until you become familiar with some sites. Good luck!

Glancing at this it seems to me it's no so much video editing as Motion Graphics. After Effects (or HitFilm) would be better suited with perhaps Premier used to asseble the different clips. And don't be fooled into thinking knowing how to do the animation is the solution - creating the graphics (Photoshop/Illustrator or Affinity Designer) in the first place is the where the real creative skill lies.

It was intended to give the client an idea of how long the process takes, not you an idea of what to do! Without viewing the whole video and selecting "good" points, then reducing the selections to a total 30 secs which work well together, I can't see this as being anything other than a mess.

I suspect they simply don't understand how long it takes to create a 30 sec video from 10-30mins of material. Either that or they're trying it on. Is there any possibility of sitting down with one o fthem and doing a very rough edit (ie just selecting the bits to include) - with them selecting so they get an idea?

Absolutely it is! Unfortunately I don't have 11 loaded so I can't post a veg but here is how I would do it (and have just tested in VP17 although everything I do is available in 11) Put your two video events on tracks 2 and 4, overlapped for where you want the transition to take place. The event in track 2 should be the incoming video event. Tint them to your choice using whatever colour FX you want (I presume you're not asking how to do that - I just used the HSL Adjust for my demo. ...

Do you mean you want your five paraise song clips in one praise song video or in five separate ones? If the latter then this is easy in just about any NLE seftware (eg HitFilm Express) Assuming your whole service is on the timeline, create a time selection containing just the section you want for praise song 1 and "render" that. Rendering is the process of creating a playable video file (eg an mp4) from the clips on your timeline. Repeat for every clip you want to create. No need for new...

Very good. I wouldn't sweat the image quality - it's fine and the variety of angles and good lighting is far more important. I'd have liked one or two shots from a lower angle, but I guess you were limited. Soundwise I thought this was fantastic - the guitarist has an amasingly delicate touch for "just strumming" and your recording brought out the dymanics. Mix overall was very good. You get a really full sound. Main vocals sound great (he's got a classic voice for you to work with). I did...

I feel exhausted after watching that! Lots of great shots. Vibrant colours. Can't take much in but I guess that's the idea - it's just intended to give an impression of the places. But a couple of places to breathe might not go amiss. On the other hand it's all failry anonymous. These places could be anywhere, we're not informed. I hope you can remember 20 years down the track. (Hopefully you have some more personal recollections of the places recorded, not intended for public consumption)....

Tha was alright. Well done. I've freqently said pretty pictures to music shouldn't last more than 90 secs and you chop it off at exactly that (the stats bit afterwards is for interested parties only - and that's fine. Nicely cut to the beat. I'd have liked a bit more of a narrative but at least you have a logical start and (very good) ending and shots are grouped together in sequences. I was worried early on that you were going a bit overboard with silly transitions, but you put a stop to...

Hi Tim! You've been floating about whilst I've been asking questions and helping me to compose my first vid. The help you and Midnight Blue have offered has been appreciated and I've given you a shout out in the credit roll. I've posted it up on the users vids .
    Cheers bud!

Hi, just wondered if I could ask you a question. What do you think it might come out like if I was to use wireless lappell mics when shooting scenes in a film, would it carry a similar effect as using a boom or is that a silly question. thanks. Mark

    Tim,
In Vegas MS Platinum 8, have you or anyone else experienced this most annoying quirk? On one of our Platinum 8 machines, when I click "Edit Generated Media", the interface opens then seems to vanish instantly at the bottom of the "dock", never to be found. I was demonstrating this for a class of 20 students this morning and could not edit any text beyond the default words "Sample Text". What is causing this interface to disappear? I suppose I could re-load the software, but was hoping not to have to do that.

What people think

by TimStannard on 01-30-2012 at 08:02 PM
Does it really matter what other people think of your work? I'd imagine all of us want our films to be liked, but it is highly unlikely that everyone watching will form the same, or even similar opinions. Even when a whole bunch of people express a very strong opinion, it's just as likely that there will be others expressing the opposite.

I was prompted to consider this after watching and then reading reviews of th BBC's adaptation of Sebastian Faulk's novel "Birdsong". Some
