:D No problem. In this day and age of "there's an app for that" we often forget that there sometimes are non-app based solutions that work just as well.

Thank you for this tip. I should have thought about this solution actually... Why do i always complicate things? :) BTW in the meantime I tried two candidates: Vee-Hive and Saleen video manager. Both are free and okay(ish) But they create their proprietary database and you cannot really drag and drop the actual file in the file system, also it is difficult to add scores/rates to the files. Not to mention they both need an import process to start with...

Lol I have always hated lightroom because I'm too impatient to understand and use the strange file tree navigation system (Maybe you can just copy paste file paths these days when you want to add something but previously I had to navigate my entire system by clicking on folders as far as I can remember) Anyway long story short I have my own very simple solution without the use of any additional software. I go to the folder with the 500+ clips. I make sure that "view" is set to extra large...

I use Lightroom to review and catalogue the footage, and I use Davinci Resolve for post production. I need advice on alternatives to Adobe Lightroom for cataloging video clips. Lightroom is really good to assign rates, stars, tags, keywords to the video clips. But it is really poor to play the actual footage, although my PC...

but .... the information should be in the video! What do I see as a viewer? What do I get out of this? What is going to keep me watching? I can see no structure. There's an attempt to get little sequences edited together but there's no overall narrative. I could start or stop the film at any point and it would make no difference to my interpretation of the film. (For example the seed thingy device appears randomly on the trailer, not on the trailer, being loaded, being unloaded). As a...

Video quality would be fine. As with all small sensor/small lens cameras you won't be able to get any shallow depth of field, but assuming you're happy with everything being in focus, you will be fine. Best tips would be ensure there's adequate lighting, the shot is exposed properly, nothing in the background is not a distraction. I assume you know about composition. Personally I'd avoid hand held shakiness, but this might be the "dynamic" look you're after (if not, use a tripod or perch the...

Hi there, I am wanting to put together a short video to help promote my website. The video will be under 5 mins and will consist of interviewing people, some outdoor footage and some music. I have previous experience with Final Cut and Premier Pro so I should be able to put something together. My question is... can I use my iPhone 7 Plus for this? I do not have any budget for this as it is a personal project. The video will be placed on the website and possibly YouTube.

Thanks for the feedback, Grapes. I had assumed better low light with the A7iii (due to the larger sensor) but some of the YT clips seem to disprove this. At least i think the 6400 would be adequate for my needs. I'm not a big fan of massively shallow DoF (for drama, I find if part of a character's face is in focus and part isn't it creates a bit of an unnatural feel - unless you'r specifically going for a BCI of a feature - an eye or mouth) and again I don't think I'd need the extremes full...

Hi Tim, Honestly I skipped the 6400 and went for the A7M3 since I felt that fitted my needs better at the time. I have used the 6400 since though and I was very impressed but I didn't really take it through a whole set of tests and comparisons. Just a lovely camera. One of the reasons I went full frame though is better low light performance and a shallower depth of field. I suspect weather sealing is also a bit better on the A7M3.

Interesting you shouidl mention that, Grapes. I was doing a bit of wishful thinking about if I was to delve into the whole DSLR/Mirrorless thing. My initial interest was the A7iii as it's had a lot of good press but reading a bit deeper the a6400 seems to have a few advantages (some of which might also be considered disadvantages - crop factor, cost of lenses). What led you to the a6400?

I haven’t checked the latest footage yet, but what I have seen from it so far is kinda bleh. It says it’s 1080p, but it looks 720 scaled up. If the footage is viewed on a smaller screen, it looks beautiful. Looking at it on a computer monitor, it looks like trash. Scaled up to tv size and it’s barely likable. I can only answer for myself, but my suspicion is most here would answer the same - an emphatic "no". We don't "process" video. We are mostly people who create films/videos. Blurring number plates and faces, if needed, is basic stuff to us editors and we'd prefer to have far more control than any automated system might have. Whilst I admire the innovation that would be developed for such a project, I struggle to see a market for it. Videos are either 1. Created in order to be watched as...

Another gorgeous looking film, Ray. Beautifiul shots, nicely paced narration with relaxed delivery, just the right sort of music. There's always a risk with drone shots that, no matter how good they are (and these are great) they become repetitive. I think you cut to other shots just before this happens. Being VERY picky (you said it wasn't perfect - and if it was there would be nowhere for you to go, would there) The single close up in this section was rather incongruous - I'd have like dto...

4k video is going to need about 4 times the bandwidth of 1080, assuming same frame rate and degree of compression. If you're running 60fps, that's going to take 8 times the bandwidth of 1080 30fps. What I've read is that you need about 25 Mbs for 4k.

It's not really - like MS Word and typing a letter, you probably only need to know about 5% in order to produce perfectly good result (assuming what you've shot is perfectly good  ) Initially (unless you want to jump in with video effects) avoid anything to do with "composites" and you'll be up and running in no time.
