Hi,

I hope somebody can provide some info on this one. I am based in the UK and looking in to the possibilty of becoming a legal video specialist. This is a an industry that is used a lot in the US and a handful of companies provide the service here in the UK.

I need to know :

Is there a market for legal video her in the UK & Europe ?

What would I need to become one ?

How do i find more info ?

If any one has any type of info on this it would be a great help

It may have puzzled you cos it is a US thang.

Stuff in court is often videod in the US - it is not allowed in the uk. May be a short career.

However, policve and solicitors do sometimes use forensic video evidence but as far as I know this isnt a common role and I have never seen / heard of a specific job role like this in the UK.

It is probably around but in very small numbers.

I've produced clips for barristers use in court cases. i.e. Claim for industrial injury based on poor company training.
No feedback, no repeat business.
Either the legal beagles found it useless as evidence or there isn't the demand/ both.
Might be more work in live filming of saturday night assaults though, especially if you like the taste of your own viewfinder.

Years ago I would occasionally film witness video at demos in case people had caue to need it.

The activists piseed me off so I stopped doing it - I got bored of pranoid self styled anarchists asking me to blurr thier faces.

With regard to legal videography. I've done a few and, you're right, there's no market for it outside the USA because video statements aren't accepted in most courts.

Important is that you're qualified. That means that you have to have a piece of paper to say that you've studied (at a proper educational establishment, not a private film school) and know what you're talking about. You have to complete a statement saying who you are and what your qualifications are, which is presented to the court. In some courts, in effect you become a witness and the recording is your exhibit.

Get it wrong (or exaggerate your qualifications) and you could end up sharing a room with a man called "Bubba" who thinks you're cute and wants you to be his special friend...

You could get a job with the police stalking fluffy climate campers around the countrytside and sneak about outside meetings in village halls - I hear it's a growth area...
