| | Hi Khagga,
I appreciate your husband is a photographer hence your reasons to choose one over the other.
I am afraid being a professional wedding producer, I obviously will not agree with this.
I would always choose a video over a photograph if shot professionally, and thats not because I do it for a living. I could give many reasons as to why I come to this conclusion, but I feel once one is set over one preference to another I will potentially be wasting my time.
Whatever you do, and whoever you choose, do not compromise on costs if you choose to have your day filmed, otherwise just let uncle harry do it.
Cheers,
GDR

| | Thanks GDR, and to all of you for your thoughts and suggestions on this.
I'm getting the clear message that I should either stick with a guest videoing things for a fun informal video, but if I choose pro I should pay out for someone decent.
I will think long and hard about this, but the budget may well decide for me in the end! Either way I am positive I'll have an amazing day...
I totally appreciate your comments GDR about choosing video over photo and I agree that we each have our reasons for preferring our chosen medium!!!
Have a great day all |

| | Okay, I can relate to what you're saying Khagga. Have you thought about approaching your local Video Making Club?
The IAC, Institute of Amateur Cinematographers have a list of filmmaking clubs. http://www.theiac.org.uk/clubs/clublist-a-d.html
It might be worth approaching your local club and offering them five hundred quid for their funds in exchange for a video. I'm normally against getting amateurs to do professional work but I guess that this is one of those occasions where either amateurs do it, or it won't get done at all. I will echo what Marc said though, don't go for a cheap professional. Someone who charges less than a grand for a wedding ain't gonna be much good. |

That's a good idea, hadn't thought of that, no. Thank you! I may do that. I know you'll all probably scream inwardly but all I really want is a record of some of the bits of the day. It's nice to have people in the flesh on film as well as all the photos, for memories sake etc. I'm not bothered about having a glossy production.....please don't shout - no disrespect to what you guys do!!! |

That was not the filming you liked Mark, it was the women if I can recall
Will have to invite you to the next one to film, just no shaky shots!
Cheers

| | You just may get lucky if a media student covers the day - Same as you may get lucky picking a student taking the photos.
But, you chose a pro and a price tag to match the quality you expect.
Ask yourself the question - If you were given the choice between seeing your grandparents professional wedding photos or a pro film of their wedding - which would give you the greatest thrill? |

| | I can help. Hello Khagga.
Having read your problem I could help. I am an amateur but have pride in my work and have even been paid for it in my prime. Now it's a hobby and I'd be happy to edit a DVD of your wedding. Please note that I don't actually film weddings. I am an editor and specialise in taking other's amateur footage and making the best of it. I do all sorts, military action videos, holidays, parties and of course weddings. I have past work that you can look at (an old wedding video which I reworked into a DVD) and I can put your own personal touch by asking what it is you actually want.
This will mean that you will need to get persons to video the day yourself of course. I will then edit it.
I agree with you that the photos are more important and a video is an extra luxury which tends to sit in the cabinet rather than on the wall.
Price: I am open to offers depending on how much footage you send me. But I can defenitely edit for half your budget.
Let me know if you're interested and we'll take it from there.
Regards
Marcus |

| | Marcus - with all due respect, I think you are out of touch with the modern wedding clients.
The vast majority of our brides insist the reverse is true. It's the photos that get admired for a short while then end up in the cupboard.
Since the digital stills revolution, most wedding guests are producing reasonable photos, so they splash out on a good video.
It may be different in your neck of the woods, but once clients have experienced seeing a great wedding DVD, they trim the photo budget to suit. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
