Saturday night and back from my first ever wedding shoot as second cameraman. My head is hurting and I am so glad its over! Was thinking about going out on my own with one camera at the start (encouraged by some of the demo stuff I've seen and think I can do a better job) but now not so sure.. Its great I had a chance to experience it with a second camera thats so experienced so there was not as much pressure.

The guy who took me on works like a real pro and his work makes all the samples I have viewed online look like crap.

I am very self-critical of my work though and I do get upset if I don't get my shots.

I also noticed guests looking a little self-conscious and irritated when they were being filmed and that will take some getting used to. From afar its okay because I can zoom in a little without them noticing but in crowded places (this venue tonight was very small) where there's not much room to move it can be awkward and a couple of times I was told to "go away". I hate being on camera myself, so I know EXACTLY how it feels.

Yes, its very hard work and I can appreciate that the average fee of 650 pounds is now reasonable. At the same time its a lot of money to pay out if the DVD is sloppy quality. So...what to do? Would anyone agree that the photographer has the easiest job at a wedding - with his digital camera?

You don't seriously expect advice from members whose samples may also be online when their work being described as crap by a first timer do you?

I did not say your work was crap. More than half though are below the quality they should be.
