What a completely sweet as f**k video! I absolutely loved that!

So with the fairy lights etc, you shot them on a slow shutter speed yeah? Is the way they look in the vid essentially the way they came out of the camera? How did you overlay the light effects eg over the singer's face? Can you use after effects to isoalte the light and then lay it over the top with reduced transparency? I'd be surprised if after effects could pick isolate the lights in such detail but can't think how else you would have done it.

My favourite bit was that flicker up the fretboard. Brilliant work.

I'm really pleased you enjoyed it! Yeah it was shot at a low shutter speed and the light overlaying and positioning was all done in Final Cut. We just superimposed them over the top of the images (very simple but quite effective!). Some tracking had to be done so they could shoot down the guitars etc

But say for example there is a shot where red light passes over the singer's face. The shot of the red light, coming out of the camera, will have black (assuming you filmed against a black background rather than green screen?) so if you overlayed this as-is, you would be overlaying the background to so what I'm wondering is how did you seperate the layers of the background and the red light so as you were only overlaying the red light?

Can you just use the black as an alpha?

Can you tell I want to try and copy some of your ideas in the future? (Feel free to keep them to yourself of course I won't mind if you say as much)

All effects where done physically and composited in afterwards. We did the basic edit first so we could shoot elements for certain shots. Running around in a dark room, we used fairy lights, toy lightsabres, and sparklers to achieve the different light effects. A few where shot at location with long 4 minutes takes that were sped up by an insane amount!
Stunning video and have to say for me it was better than the song.

I did read through the comments and wondered how you did all the flares and lights, did very much remind me of some INXS videos from the 80' and early 90'.
Interesting it’s also used in a very recent Paul McCartney video, although sparklers only and used as a burn through. So it’s very much fitting in with what’s visually hot.

To me it looked like it was shot on 35mm film, had a real nice look to it. I bet there was plenty of work going on putting that puppy together.

Well done.

(I dare not say 5 stars..last time I did I was shot down and buried in a pile of wool) mind you it certainly had the beating and viewing sticks out..Amazing how a tiny bit of controversy can pull a audience.

Thanks for the feedback Leo. This was the first music video we shot with a 35mm adapter so very happy with the results. Its also nice to have a choice of lens for once when composing a shot!

Special effect are verry well done. I love the final texture on the video and the effect that come out of it.

Good lightnning set-up and some nice camera angle and composition.
