Hi Video Dave,

Did you end up purchasing from uktechstore.com? I saw them advertising as a sponsored link on amazon.co.uk. I also saw this other company bitesizedeals.co.uk advertising as a sponsored link on amazon.co.uk too. Both companies seem to be US or Canadian and both have very similar prices for CS4.

If you did purchase, I assume you could verify what Soul75 says about there not being any problem registering US/Canadian originated software in the UK... I emailed uktechstore.com and they said "This product is of North American origin however is legally licensed for use anywhere so as long as it is a genuine product. Also, please note that we have verified all aspects of licensing before making these products available for sale in the UK.".

I also asked uktechstore.com about the VAT/import duty situation and they told me "Please note that all costs relative to shipping such as any duties, customs, etc are incurred by us. Your final price paid is the checkout price!"... no specific mention of VAT there though. Having said that, even if I had to pay the VAT at 15%, the price is still far less than anywhere in the UK is selling it for.

They seem genuine from the email response I got to my question (my original question to them was "Am I correct in assuming that products (specifically Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Mac) advertised on your website are shipped from outside the European Union? If so, am I responsible for paying any import duties and VAT?") but I'm still suspicious :-p

Mark.

Mark.

Hi,

i've been doing research about uktechstore online through forums, as i'm starting a business and need web premium cs4.

i've read your original posts back in february and you seem like you were in exactly the same boat i'm in now.

did you end up using them? if so, how were they? if not, who did you go with?

i've been putting my cash away to start my dream and i don't want to waste the better part of £1,000! any feedback you could give me would be invaluable.

cheers,

Martin

I would advise equal caution when dealing with a first time poster offering generous help.

Fair enough - that's what this forum is built on - I was simply pointing out the obvious. Don't be offended.

Hi

I am also a first time poster. I've been wondering hard about whether to get CS4 Production Premium for a while now - the whole package, not the upgrade - and, like so many others it's a big dent in my wallet! Anyway, after browsing the net last Saturday for the cheapest copy of Production Premium CS4 I came across UKTechStore for the first time.

Of course, like most others I was pretty suspicious of such a low price - about £500 the lowest I'd seen, which was at ecostsoftware I believe (that's another store I've risked buying from before because of their low price (MS Visual Studio 2008 , but had great service too). Seeing Watchdog on the BBC a few months ago about people who set up cheap, cheap sites and just take your money (and credit card details)... was worrying too. UKTechStore doesn't have many products on their pages - most pages are blank... Not sure whether this helped make me feel more secure, or whether it made me think that they only sell a few products because they're the ones where the price really is different.

Well, as I always do before buying at a new place I Googled the name of the place and... this thread was one at the top of the list so I read through. I too read another review place after finishing here and, like the original poster said, it was full of good comments apart from one, I think... However, the store even replied to that one bad comment which was about a shipping delay, saying it was unfair and that the customer was informed that would be the case. I think he cancelled. Those reviews are here : PriceGrabber User Rating for UKtechstore.com - PriceGrabber.co.uk

Anyway, seeing the feedback from the store and the other reviews gave me enough "courage" to place my order! So I put CS4 in my basket and went through the checkout. What I did like was that the credit card payment process was through WorldPay - from RBS (though I'm not sure I should feel so secure by that, nowadays!) This though means that the store didn't directly get my credit card details, so that was good!

I kept nervously checking my order status over the weekend, though of course, it would probably only move on Monday when they were back at work! Monday came... into the evening and, no change. Nervousness increasing just a little, but they are a Canadian company, so there's a time difference! Then, around 11pm... notification from UPS with tracking details!!!!!!! Grrrreat!!!! So, that was Monday 22nd. It's now Wednesday 24th and... I've just installed the whole thing and about to go in and have a play, but thought I'd let you know of my experience with this company... a very good one!

Well, I hope if you do try them out you get as good service as I did, and others seem to have had. I certainly won in this case! I'll still be as cautious with any future purchases from new online stores though!

Hope that helped someone! Sorry for the long first post!

thanks for replying.

i guess it all boils down to me being skeptical with low prices. i can't help it!

i phoned adobe who said as long as it's an english language version - it will work in the uk.

i phoned uktechstore, and the guy i spoke to was understanding of my feelings, explained how they work, and seemed believable.

i suppose i just want to hear more people experiences installing software from abroad on their computer in the uk. it's such a big investment for me, and i don't want to be disappointed.

thanks for replying.

Martin

Hi,

I notice that some people have dealt with UKTechStore - and received their goods. I've also been researching PB Software and BiteSizeDeals.co.uk etc.

I wonder - I notice UKTechStore's FAQ goes into some depth about OEM software. Is this what has been delivered in the end? - "just a CD" (no Manuals etc). My understanding is that OEM licenses may not be "proper" if you're the consumer - rather than hardward manufacturer (like Dell, or much smaller outfit). Though some shops do sell MS Office stuff as OEM with a new PC .. properly or otherwise.

Its a good learning point that Adobe is such a rip-off in the UK! UKTechStore is a bit tempting, but for a bit more I can go with Amazon.com in the US - $645.49 about £400 + shipping, and maybe UK VAT @ 15%. Still a lot cheaper than the UK unfortunately...

Edit -- Blimey! I didn't expect this forum to embed quite such a blatant image/link/advert into this post!!

Cheers
