| | Demo Reel: Please critique
Hey all,
I am a first time poster here, I just produced my first reel to try and start a career in post production and editing. I'd love to hear feedback on it.

I'm no expert on demo reels, but I found it hard to watch, not to put it too harshly. I found the title was too long, with the still images held on screen for a few seconds apiece. With all the information also at the end, tightening up could definitely help. After that, I found it didn’t really display quick, talent-highlighting shots, but long shaky-camera shots, which seemed to be repeated throughout the piece. When the parkour athletes? were interviewed, the sound was not clean, but seemed noisy, as if shot from the internal camera microphone. Maybe using shorter, highlights, you could make it more attractive. Anyway that’s just my opinion, maybe I’m way off. Not trying to be negative, just offering some constructive criticism.
Peace
Chain Lube
Might be too late, but I found this through Google. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/demo_reel.html |

I agree with chainlube in all he has said. What id also say is as follows
All the stuff related to the second music group looks amature - Loose it!
The first music group - The hip hop tune - It's too long.
Yeah alot more post work is needed on the sound to get it jus a lil hotter.
Tighten up the cuts.
Go look at other peoples reesl Fot you I'd say a 1min is eneough for now cause you dont have enough stuff to fill more time. Less is more. I've been working as an editor for 5 years and I have diffrent reels for diffrent stuff.
Think about what you wanna show and show that stuff but you only wanna give a lil tatster. You can have a look at my own reel here: http://www.mediachill.com/irishmark/TV/showreel.htm
Good luck with it.

Hey,
I do agree with what has been said, but I also just want to post that I really like the look of that basketball set-up. Those shots (with the girl in the front) were really appealing to me. The band at the end was the least appealing.
Some good stuff though! Shorten it up, and I think it will be much nicer.

I'm no expert either, but I guess the biggest problem for me was that it didn't feel as a whole. I don't know if you get what I mean? The transition from kinda one topic to the other could have been a bit smoother.
Also the shaky shots weren't the best to watch.
But as your first one it wasn't all that bad.

hey all, I took your comments and produced a newer, shorter, and hopefully better, demo reel. Once again, I'd love to hear feedback on it. http://www.showbizreels.com/memberpa...heis&htmlvar=2 |
