Default Show reel advice 2

Some months ago I sold 20 sec of footage to the local bbc news, they then asked me for a showreel. My first effort posted a few weeks ago was rubbish and informed by that feedback I have started another.

Do you expert types think this is better?

Oviously lots to do but is this more like it?

Personally?

Not bad. I wouldn't have the star and words spin though at the front end. I would spin the star and move the words forward slowly. The spin needs to have some speed variance too. It just jerks into the spin. I think it would be better gradually starting and getting faster and faster as it goes back. I also wouldn't use the Pearl and Dean theme either. Too commonly used to be individual.

I wouldn't ditch the whole sequence. I think your russian style star is a very good logo. Just choose a different tune.

Hmm, trouble is I no longer have the edit fiel for that sequence, only the render. I will probably edit another shorter animated logo for the start.

Link updated to latest version. I expect this isnt how a 'proper' showreel should look but i like it !

All very rough still, specific shots may be swapped but this is kind of how it will look when done, 2 more mins to do.

My personal opinion would be to ditch the first 35 seconds of the clip. It's not until then that your reel turns into what I have come to know as a showreel.

Nearly finished. http://www.zaskarfilms.com/Films/sreelcens.wmv

Thanks to all for the advice. The film contains only (outro excepted) bits from films I shot over the last three years or so, I really enjoyed making it.

It may not be a 'proper' showreel but I am happy with it.

Great, thanks. To be honest I am not really actively seeking proper employment in the media, but now if anyone wants to know what kind of stuff I make I can show them this.

The man at the BBC mentioned working now and again as a news 'stringer', this would fit with my current plans.

I am pleased with it as a sort of reprise of my film making to date.
