I pretty much followed the setup of this guys rig.

Although I used PVC pipe. I'll try to put together a step by step for what I used.

I'd say that was impressive (while you managed to keep running, that is! ). Just goes to show what a rip-off the "proper" stuff is.

The vid was entertaining too!

Remember thought that the "steady" bit of a steadicam is just part of the story... you need control too. How do the homemade rigs stand up to rotating around a subject, "follow my lead", and my favourite, the tracking shot which then pans out and extends (as if the camera was attached to a piece of elastic - beautiful shot).

That was pretty sweet! I myself film skating with my friends and this would be a very useful tool.

Could you post pictures of yours?

I got one of the engineers\mechanics where I work to make me one of these following the instructions on the "$14 steadycam" website. At works expense, of course

I shoved some blue paint on it (and some swear words in yellow, in the style of teamfishcake, of course!)

I haven't played with it yet, though....

The camera can be screwed straight onto the top, or the top of a tripod can be fitted.

Hi Luke,

There is a pretty nice home built steadycam design here, it's a bit more expensive to make, but as you will see, it may be worth the try.

If you've found anything better out there, I'd love to see it.

enjoy..
