Thread: Test video no.1: Canon HV30

This video was a test of the HV30.. This wasn't edited.. Just shot and uploaded.. I leaned a few things from this first test.. one thing is when using a lens you have to be zoomed in a little or you get some vignetting effects.. also using the 30p mode it doesn't seem to handle fast movements well.. I'll try the standard HD 60i and see how that dose.. One other note, Since I don't have my firewire cable yet.. I had to capture to my pc in SD and render back to HD.. Other then that there was no editing... what you see is what the camera did... Looking at what others have done with the HV30 I know that this camera can do better then what I have here.. It just a matter of getting it set up and learning it.. So feel free to take a look and make comments..

I can see slight aberrations on my lens at extremes too sometimes.
As for progressive - overrated in my book at 30 fps.

This little camera can produce some great results in good light. I find with most of these consumer cams they like to overexpose if left on auto in daylight, so always best to lock exposure and stop down. I guess you could say that as a rule with any cam.

I have managed to combine ex1 footage and this little camera quite succesfully, so considering the price it's a bargain.

That camera can produce some very good imagery but the auto exposure did have problems in those clips. What type of lens did you have attached at the start of the video it showed a lot of vignetting at the four corners? Is it easy to use the manual focus dial on the side?

Jeesh - it shouldnt vingnette like that - surely not - fault I think - exchange it is my advice.

The Lens was a 0.45X Professional Wide Angle with Macro by Digital Concepts.. I Noticed the Vignetting went away after I zoomed in a little.. My guess of the cause is the length of the lens.

Ah - my bad - didnt sopt you had a .45x on. That explains it - normal.

I would add that even on my low rent SD old tatty sony i can see the softening my cheap wide apaptor causes - it may knock the percived detail noticably.

The Lens was a 0.45X Professional Wide Angle with Macro by Digital Concepts. Actually I havent used manual focus yet.. I did notice I don't like the placement of the zoom rocker, its bumped to easy when hand held.. small gripe I know..

For a professional wide angle lens there are a lot of dark corners in your video. When you get a chance to try out the manual focus dial on the side let us know. Also, is the HV 30 not meant to record in 16:9?
