Default birthday party video

Video I made for one of my friends of her birthday party. Tryed to make it as entertaining as posible. Not to mention embarrising. What are friends for, right?
I would like some feed back on the editing I did, I know I have a lot to learn, so hear it is.

First off I would say that watching videos of anyone's drunk friends is a bit like watching x tube home made porn.
Usually the people in it love it but it is rare for a third party to be able to enjoy it as much.

I can see from your vid that you are enjoying the power of video editing and trying new stuff is the way to learn, but I think you are trying too hard and maybe putting the editing bit befor the filming bit.

A good film starts with good raw video - no amount of editing will rescue you if your raw isnt technically good and or if the content is poor.

Technically your raw video appears underexposed. Maybe the light wasnt good enough for your camera?

As for the content - laboured I thought. Many of your editing enhanced gags fell flat for me as the incidents were just not that funny and the added sfx were too daft.

I very rarely film parties anymore as i have found it difficult to produce films I am happy with. I have found that i can enjoy the party OR film the party - not both. I find that if i try to participate and film then all my raw video is poor.

Good camera work needs a critical eye and perhaps the owner of that eye needs to be aloof to spot and get good shots.

I agree with you, It is hard for a third party to apreciate an "inside joke" if not impossible.
I supose I did over edit it a bit. I guess less is more sometimes, but the quality was so bad I just didn't want to throw in the towel.
Also, on the technical side, Yes, the light levels where way to low for my camera. I'm still in the market for a good Cam-Light, but my camera doesn't come with that option so I'm trying to find a self-contained aftermarket one that I could attatch some how to a hand held mini tri pod.
As far as my eye goes, Still working on that one. I love editing but from what you said I think my directing is lacking more than my shooting. Even if I had a light it wouldn't have helped the content.
Thankyou for your feed back, It is greatly apreciated, I look forward to working with the lessons learned and producing improvements that are noticable. One of these days I'll get it right. Cheers

I think the biggest problem was that you were trying to create something special but the raw vidoe wasnt up to it. It just wasnt that rivetting.

But you learn by doing so you keep on doing !
