The 'art' of video editing is a strange beast. Clearly the digital video fimmaker must be a creative individual to produce imaginative and aesthetically pleasing work, but he is also has to be part computer geek these days!

On the one hand you get the purely creative individual who struggles to deal with the learning curve of the software and ultimately outsources any hardware problems and invests in a plethora of guides and tutorials, on the other there's the techy guy that quickly learns the software but is ultimately let down by flair. And that's the problem with the 'lone gunman'. In any other aspect of filming and editing, you'd have a crew specialising in each aspect

My problem is that I don't sit easy with either. I'm not a particualry techy guy, but feel at ease with both software and hardware (perhaps above average, but it doesn't really interest me sufficiently to keep bang up to date). I'm also not particulary creative, but have always liked to dable in the arts. Again, perhaps better than average but have no real commitment!

I guess that's why I ended up studying Economics and French at Uni. A nice balance between art and science.

The end result is that my videos end up looking decent but not spectacular!

Well I am pretty much self taught with regards to computers, and don't tend to read manuals, but realise that I should. If I come up against a problem I then look for an answer rather than reading the manual and not getting the problem in the first place. I would consider myself above average but by no means an expert.

I am not to bad with the creative stuff, my wife says I'm the arty one, and I do enjoy the overall video production editing experience.

It is very creative, and when you get it right and you can get an emotional reaction from the person watching your creation ie, bring a tear to the eye, or complete floods of tears, then I know I have done a good job, and go it right.

I must admit though it is hard work, but enjoyable and rewarding.

I like yours Marc, good use of editing to the music. And it reminds me to chase you for your 2nd part of your "window wall" tutorial...
