Just watched the original, then read thru the posts to the second submission, then visited the web site.
It's a good piece alright. The original lost me though, just after the Freedom tear. The contrast was just too great and I suppose when you emerge from a dark night of the soul even though the morning may be bright the mood remains one of subtle relief as opposed to outright joy or elation. In short, for me the dessert island idyl clashed. I'm figuring more personal images of relief may be appropriate, such as those featuring human kindness and compassion. This is because the spiritual journey is often accompanied by this kind of insight and willingness on the part of those going through it, especially where a great deal of suffering has gone before. I even suggest that it is kindness and compassion that serves as effective therapy for harbouring sense of hope.
Prior to the freedom tear I was taken immediately by the imagery and the sound though felt, as Marc did, there was a synchronisation issue which was noticably less evident on the revised version. At first I thought it was a horror movie, which I guess in a way it is, but then the variety of images takes you away from that and I was brought closer toward a sense of mood or feeling rather than the impression a story was to be told. Which, I think, may cause a problem.
Fundamentally, the trailer implies a movie or a story via it's use of powerful text over complimentary images but in reality we are not talking about one person's DNOS. At least, that's what I'm left thinking. At the end it's almost an advert for like journeymen to come together. It's saying, 'if you can identify with the mood of this piece, if you have been to this place I am showing you, then there is something here for you'. But by that stage I'm either wanting some kind of continued moving picture montage artwork that's going to satisfy the feeling you've built up in me or I want that hole to remain large and gaping so that I am compelled to find out what comes next. As it stands, I still feel like it's an ad for a retreat.
Damning praise I guess. Sorry.

Ciaranl, thank you very much for your thoughts. Unfortunately you have caught me at a very busy time. I'd like to reflect a little more on your post and reply when I get a chance to come up for air.

I really liked it, except for i think four things.
A) I think my friend just Instant Messaged me with that font.... find a really original one or find a simple one, i would focus more on the content then, and not "ive seen that font before!"
B)That girls face and the run in with the satan face or whatever. Exnay on that man. Thats like cheesy, go to ebaumsworld.com, then go to flash, and youll find a whole bunch of crap like that.
C) It was all photos. No video? Is the movie going to be just slideshows?
D) you didnt explain very much, which probably ties in with C a little.
other than those things, you did a super good job with some of your photos. when i saw the feet, i got the creeps. when i saw the chair, i got the creeps. you did an excellent job with them. also, then sound. Excellent man, my audio out was up, and that goes to a digital surround in my room, and it creeped the hell out of me. That was really good.
really good job dude. I want some video next time though!
