I DO have a idea for a contest, and it kind of follows our discussion here...
What if the moderators got together and posted a bunch of video for download on the site, and the contest is for the members to assemble the video into a movie, with whatever limitations or requirements. Definitely a lot easier than all of us getting together and making one video.
i like this idea! keep it simple and have vids for members to download and use in whatever fashion they wish to create a fantastical short video.
it puts us all on an even level and will show skills from other areas and not just camera work

MODS?? you guys up for this?

YES!!! YES!!! yesyesyes!!!!

That is exactly what i was going for!! I suppose then, that the contest, or project or whatever we call it, would become more of an editing challenge than acting or cinematography, but people still have the choice to do their own videos!!

I really, really think that a contest where all the material is provided, and rules or guidelines as to the use of said material are put forth for each project would be extremely popular. people can showcase their creative genius without having to deal with cost, equipment, weather, or a multitude of other constraints!

As for the material, footage from a stock library could be used, footage from existing films, maybe even a section where users can upload their own raw, unedited video for the use of all in the upcoming project.

I do think that this, instead of a single video, will more drastically show the varying styles of film making of all the people who choose o participate across the globe.

^ eager beaver! ^

i think just footage supplied by MODs would be best rather that letting people upload stuff.

keep it simple!

With all due respect lads...

Last time we had this sort of enthusiasm, lots of requests for a competition etc. etc. The mods organised a comp, arranged prizes, worked out rules and... 4 entries, 3 from mods!

So, you'll forgive us if we don't jump up and down with joy at the moment.

Especially as it looks like that the majority of the difficult work (ie supplying the raw footage) would be done by.. the mods!

Don't get cocky...
the cocky ones always die first in war movies
the sentimental ones second...

its true it is a lot of effort.....
hows about if it was not done as any kind of comp with prizes and stuff but just an ongoing feature of the forum? people can use the footage as and when they like? and other members, not just mods can submit fottage to be used?

more of a resorce rather than a comp

That's much more appealing!

A common theme, everyone's welcome to make, or add, their own chunk and we see what happens at the end.

If the promissed sections actually appear, we can rethink the aims during the project.
