Well, if your camera is using DV format, 30 minutes will need about 7 to 8 GB of disk space. No way around that. But you can copy just sections of the tape, small enough for editing individually. You may be able to get the job done in small pieces rather than a single massive file.
The other recourse is to add on a big hard drive.
