Default Video Camera To Computer Problem

Right heres the problem - im new to the forums btw and just wondering if you can help because ive tried everything else.

Basically my freind has a Sony Camcorder which he connects to the computer using firewire. All is well and good as the computer acepts that the camera is connected. He got some soft ware with his camera but this is no good as it dosnt recognize the camera. So he resulted to using windows movie maker. This worked all well and gd untill half an hour later and the computer said there was no free disk space left! We realy need this footage like now so that we can produce the dvds. Is there any way we can get better software? and cut the size right down cus if we dont then i will never be able to edit it!
    Thanks in advance

Well, if your camera is using DV format, 30 minutes will need about 7 to 8 GB of disk space. No way around that. But you can copy just sections of the tape, small enough for editing individually. You may be able to get the job done in small pieces rather than a single massive file.

The other recourse is to add on a big hard drive.
