    Default MyDVD burning problem

    Hi

New to this forum, and to capturing/burning and would appreciate some help.

I've used Sonic MyDVD to capture a 70 minute drama I've had on VHS for sone time. The file size is 4.21Gb and I used the 'best' setting. I can preview the movie, so I assume it's captured ok, but the 'Burn' button is greyed-out, so I can't to burn it onto a DVD.

I'm able to burn some short clips fine - so is this to do with the file size (and if so why, as the DVD should store up to 4.7Gb)?

    Many thanks

The DVD also requires around 500Mb for its file structures and Menus (VOB, Menu Images etc). So it looks as though your video is just over the limit.

Thanks for the speedy response !!

I'll try the 'Better' quality setting and see what happens (unless you know of any other tricks?)

    Regards

Unfortunately I only have a very old copy of Sonic myself, but you could try encoding your Movie to Variable Bit rate instead of constant bit rate. I don't know if the latest version of Sonic allows this (my version doesn't, but it would certainly save on a little bit of disk space. At a guess I would think Sonic is probably setting its 'Best' settings to 8000Kb per second (this usually results in about 60 minutes worth of Video). It probably uses about 6000Kb per second for Better settings and will result in about 90m minutes of Video.

There may may other options. To be honest though I usually use 6000Kb per second myself (although using ULead products) and find this quality more than acceptable. If that level of quality doesn't suffice, post back and I am sure we can offer alternative encoders etc.

    Good luck.
