Default cannot capture to C drive??

    Sorry, cannot capture.
The data rate on Drive C: is less than the required rate of 4444 Kbyte/second
Thus reads the error message when I try to capture with Studio DV 9.
Can anyone explain to me what this means and what the solution is?
    I have a pentium 4, 1.6GHz. 20gig hard drive.

    it's not cryptic, come on!

The hard drive can't write data to itself quick enough. This could be because it's badly fragmented, other apps are using the drive at the same time, or you haven't installed the (correct) drivers.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
It appears the problem is the speed of the C drive.
Version 9 appears to require 7200 revs/min altho the system requirements say nothing of this.

4.5MB/sec should be do-able by even the slowest of drives. the 4200rpm drive in my mp3 player does 15MB/sec easily. My old 7200rpm ibm 75gxp does 30-odd, and the 5400rpm maxtor thing did 20-odd before it went tits up, iirc.

    Well thanks again.
I think I may have truly got to the bottom of it this time and am typing it up in case another troglodyte finds him/herself in this neck of the cyber woods. The C drive was badly fragmented and gave a poor data rate reading. After defragging I expected Studio 9 to automatically retest the data rate but not so. The original test remained as the default until I requested Studio to test the data rate again. Ho hum. Thanks
