Thread: Getting Started with Premiere Pro

  1. Default Getting Started with Premiere Pro

    Hello Everyone,
I am finally making the foray from Director to editor with Premiere Pro! As I am completely new to this I have some very basic questions. Well- basically what are the first steps in getting footage captured to pc so I can start editing? I shot in 24P mini-dv on a Panasonic dvx100. As far as I can tell, I have all the equipment necessary to proceed- i.e. the footage, the camera, the fire wire cable, the pc, Premiere pro, plenty of drive space etc. The premiere pro manual seems to be a bit vague in getting me started. Can anyone give some guidance as per the exact steps needed to at least capture the footage onto the pc? Thanks for your help!
    Dave

Start a new project under a Panasonic 24P preset. Connect your cam via firewire and set to play, then go File > Capture. Press the big red button to record (and the rest is just as easy).

And for every video clip you capture make sure you give it a recognisable descriptive name, so you will know exactly what it is in six months time. Also putting everything into folders and naming them is good too.

Definately make use of 'bins'. I find my productivity increases dramatically when I store clips in seperate bins.

And store your titles in a folder on your Hd called "titles" or else you will find them all over the place.
