Thread: PC Mini DV drive?

    Default PC Mini DV drive?

    Hiya,

My faithful TRV900's Firewire socket has finally given up the ghost...

I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of a standalone PC-based DV tape drive, that I could fit inside my computer, and use for capturing and export?

It seems crazy that I should wear out a great camera, from overusing the tape mechanism from capturing tapes etc?

I've not seen or heard of anything like it, but I can't be the only one who needs one?

Alternatively, what's the cheapest mini DV camera with DVin/out that I cna use instead of my main camera?

I've not heard of anything like that before,

I'd suggest searching on e-bay for a faulty camera, there's normally a few with a fault that doesn't affect the tape mechanism. You could probably pick one up for 40 or something, if it's got Av-in you've got a bonus AV-DV converter aswell.

You know that would be a really good invention, no more dreaded dropped frames

I think I read somewhere that there was something like that comming out.
I can't remember but I do belive my dads old computer had a special drive for tapes and such but I really can't remember the details.
