Default Opinions on Hard Disk Camcorders

I work in a school, a school where DV tapes can easliy go missing, and with them, A-level media coursework! With this in mind, my boss wants me to look in to Hard Disk Camcorders, does anyone have an opinion on them?

Hmm, someone has fallen off their horse and bumped their head!
I wonder if that person still edits on tape or is a hypocrite and uses a computer.

Does this mean they aren't as bad as I've been lead to believe?

I'm sure it depends on what format it saves them in. MPEG = bad, DV = Good, but are there any reasonably priced hard drive camcorders that store in DV?

You do not want to record in Mpeg. I would also buy one tht is a stand alone not built into the camera. look at this http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...rder_accessory

That looks like a very nice camera, unfortunately I'm working with a school budget and have to be aware that the camera *might not* be particularly well looked after by the students.

I think I'm going to recommend we get some dv tape cameras instead!!!

Dropping any camera is risky, but one with a HD in? Fragile maybe. ANd mpeg sucks, DV rules.

Not only that but the 80 GB HDD is over over 1000, C'mon how can they ask that when you can buy an external 250Gig drive for 99.
