    Cookie cutter cuts out a selcted area, you are linited to the shapes supplied. I have used this to pixellate faces.

    Masking is more flexible, you can cut out complicated shapes for groovy effects.

    Just thought I would ask before looking around;
    BUT is the masking effect part of Vegas or is it within another program.
    I use the cookie cutter a lot but never saw a masking directory or effect....or am I going Blind?!!or Crazzy.

    Blind Marrs. It's within track motion. Look at the window that you see when track motion is enabled. At the bottom, to the left of the timeline is a check box marked Mask. Check the box, draw your mask using the little 'pen' tool, set lots of points for a complicated shape, join them together to enable the mask, set positive or negative mask, set the opacity, set blending in or out, keyframe different positions at different times... you get the idea...

    Sorry Marrs, leading you the garden path. That should have read, 'within Event Pan/Crop', not within 'track motion'. That might be why I confused you. Sorry.

    No, no, no!!!!! It's a piece of cake really and you're able (as Mark says) to get some very groovy results.

    There's loads of Vegas info on the "Learning Vegas.com" website.
    Just recently joined and its quite good.

    I'm an old film maker for many years but am fairly new to the Vegas stuff.
