Thread: JVC GR-D240EK Computer connectivity

    Default JVC GR-D240EK Computer connectivity

I've just got a GR-D240EK off of eBay and generally it works fine.

But I didn't read the specs properly and now I realise there is no USB or FireWire for this camcorder.

It was insanely cheap because it didn't come with any cables other than the standard DV charger and plug and a 60 minute DV tape.

So my question is, what do I need for the camcorder and/or my PC to transfer my movie clips from the DV tapes to my PC's hard drive?

I am a real clueless newbie with camcorders, so please be detailed and specific with any help you can offer me.

    Any help is much appreciated

The GR-D240EK is a miniDV camcorder and will therefore have a firewire port. You'll need a firewire cable and card to connect to your PC.

Thank you. Just to clarify; my PC has numerous FireWire ports available. So can I make a direct connection with one cable or do I still need a special card?

You can use the existing firewire connections on your PC. You'll just need software to capture and edit.

This sort of software can be really expensive. I really only need basic stuff i.e. to turn the tape contents into a playable AVI or MPG file.

Do you have any suggestions for a very basic novice I could try?

    Thanks again
