    Default Newbie help please....?

    Hi all,

Looks like a really useful forum for what I want to do, so please could some of you take the trouble to reply to these questions?

I want to download video from my Sony MicroMV camcorder to my PC and make DVDs. I have the USB2 cable, and the downloading software called Pixela ImageMixer - but the quality of the PMEG files it downloas is pretty rubbish.

    1. Is this the best way to get the video onto my PC?

    2. If not, then is there better cable/software that I should be using?

    3. What is good software for making home movie DVDs? Just basic at this stage - nothing fancy!

    Many thanks for your time....

Thanks shine..... I need to get hold of Sony's MovieShaker software. I don't ave the disk any more - just the drivers disk. Anyone know where I can get it or can send me a link?

Seems from that site that this is the only sensible chance for me to use this cam properly. The version of Ulead Video Studio that came with my firewire card doesn't even recognise MicroMV!!

    Thanks for any help again....

If memory serves me correctly, MicroMV cameras have a firewire port. I would connect that to your PC and then try he latest version of VideoStudio (they do a free trial).

What is it about MicroMV camcorders and either Firewire recognition or the vast majority of NLE's won't recognise them?

They use a proprietary form of MPEG2.

Thanks guys for your responses. Yes that camera does have iLink, but none of the s/w that I've tried uses it to download video - just to control the camera.

I've pretty much given up now. All I can get is pretty rubbish quality MPEG2 via USB2. I will transfer all the video I have on these tapes to my PC before I try to edit, etc. At that time I will bin this camera and get a new one - probably a Canon or JVC.
