Default which is the quickest way of encoding a project.

I am just dabbling with premiere after using other edit gear and my second effort has taken 2 hours 34 minutes to encode. The results are for the most part good, just a couple of small stutters.
My question is is there a quicker way of encoding.
The clip I used was 19 minutes long. I used adobe media encoder to produce an mpg file.
    Can anyone help me?

Frustrating sometimes rendering out. Long renders usually mean lots of effects along the timeline. If you havn't got many effects it's perhaps due to the specs of your PC

Thanks Shiner. I took on board what you said about my problem. I reverted back to my old editor Arcsoft showbiz DVD2.
I put 7 clips into the time-line, which added up to 1hour 19 minutes of video and rendered it. It took 10 minutes!!
There must be a quicker way of encoding from Premiere.

Real-time editing- Take advantage of rendering that happens so fast it's almost unnoticeable, this is from two adverts that I have seen on Ebay, one advertising the software that I have premiere 7.0 and the other advertising premiere pro 2.0.
What I am doing wrong, when my rendering takes 2 hours 34 minutes?
