Default need help exporting with premiere elements

I'm using Premiere Elements. I'm trying to export a 1 1/2 hr video i have to AVI. The drive I'm putting it on is 40 gigs...but during the process of exporting it stops and says thats there is an error and not enough space of the drive. How much space do u think it will take? and why that much space? Is there anything i can do to get around this problem with still keeping it DVD quality? (I plan to put it on a DVD but for now need it an AVI)

1.5 hours od SD avi should be about 18Gb.

I can't be certain why this is causing you to run out of disk space. It must bne somethign to do with scratch drives defined for premiere - assuming it works the same way as 'pro'.

Any chance you could export to a different drive to the drive with your scratch files on it?
