Thread: need Windows to detect my 180GB hard drive

  1. Default need Windows to detect my 180GB hard drive

I can only get it to detect up to around 127GB or so. I have SP1 installed for my XP and its an NTSF file system. I still can't seem to get Windows to detect that the hard drive is 180GB. Any ideas? I really hope i dont have to format it.

is it possible that you need to update your bios?

Yes, i have installed the latest Bios. The bios detects my hard drive at 203 gigs for a 200 gig hard drive. I was mistaken before; its a 200gig hard drive, not a 180gig, but the points the same: windows won't detect it.

    This should help: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20795012.html

It starts to get more relevant towards the end. To be honest, I think it's probably unpartitioned space.
