    Folks,

Does anyone know of any DV cameras that can record at faster frame rates so when they are played back at the correct speed you can achieve smooth slow motion?

    I don't think that's possible. PAL = 720x576@25 fps it's a standard.
You can however achieve that smooth slow-mo with your software. How good it is depends on the software and, of course, yourself.

There is a vdub filter (i think), that will deinteralce 25i to produce lower res 50p. Never used it but i believe it is out there.

Except for that as Mihai says, it's all in the edit.

I like slo mo lots. The tricks are; dienterlace footage always, use motion blur to smooth stuff, use fast (1000th or less) shutter speed so frames not blurred.

    Cheers folks.

I'll have to do some experimenting then before going ahead with plans.

I'll tell you why I want to do this, I want to blow up a model house and obviously to do this a normal speed wouldn't be very effective so that's where the slo mo comes in.

I've got depth of field and everything else sorted it's just the speed.

Anyone any tips before I start tinkering?

Sound interesting. The bigger the model the better it may come out. Have fun.

I smashed a big telly with a sledgehammer once, came out well. WIll post the footage if i can find it.

Here it is, used as a ending to one of my films.

That was slowed to 1fps and then lots of motion blurr added to smooth things. I think I may have m blurred it, slowed it and then blurred some more.

Interesting. I'll have a tinker to see what test footage I can come up with.

    Cheers Mark
