Default ~Newbie To The Forums~ plus Ulead support please?

I downloaded the trial before you buy Ulead Media Studio 9. I plugged the iLink and opened UMS 9. I went to import from DV or it gave me the options to scan the tape, then the only option was to submit the button "NEXT" and immediately go to burn, how can I get the the edit first?

    Did I miss something?

    :

A very warm welcome to the forums.

Sorry to start with a question but can you clarify what software you are using.

Is it Ulead VIDEO Studio 9 or Ulead Media Studio Pro 8.

    THanks

Hi and thank you for the warm welcome. I have both in trial to give a go before I buy it but I am not sure how to scan the tape, then go to edit mode to add the fun stuff.

It seems I do not have an option after scaning the tape to go to edit? I tried the help menu but is there a step I am missing?

I really ,really appreciate your help.

Also, how does Nero and Adobe compare to Ulead? Or Sony Vegas? What I liked or read about Adobe is you can go directly to edit mode more easily?

Lets start with Ulead Media Studio 8. And please forgive me I am working from memory as I don't have a copy on the PC I am presently working from.

First of all it is important to note that the Capture and Edit processes are contained in different programs. So lets start with ...

    The Capture Process

    1. Attach your DV Cam to your PC and set the cam to play mode

    2. Launch the Video Capture program

    3. From the Capture menu select Scan DV Tape

    4. Check the Save to Production Library checkbox (you can use the Library ... button to slect the folfer of your choice and you can right click any folder to create another of your choice)

    5. Slect the Scan from Beginning option and set the speed to your choice. Then click the Start button.

    6. You can then select the scenes you want to keep by checking the appropriate checkbox in the window in the left hand side of the screen.

    7. When happy click the Record button

    8. When thats finished quit the Video Capture program and launch the Video Editor

    The Editing Process

    1. Launch Video Editor 8.0

    2. Locate the production library folder in which you saved your scans from the previous steps.

    3. You can double click any scene in the production library to edit the start and end points.

    4. You can click and drag those scenes to the timeline as required and add effects if you so wish.

    5. But hey thats another tutorial all together and it would spoil the fun if I told you everything in this post.

    6. Above all have fun!

I only have Video Studio 8 (which didn't support Scan Tape) but I will check a few things and post back on that one. Although I suspect the principle the same.

Nero is primarily a burning package. Adobe sell a couple of Editors, Elements (Low End but a very good package indeed) and Premiere (High end excellent package). I would recommend that you try out the trial versions of these and see whats right for you. There are also plenty of Adobe experts on these forums who can provide good advice.

I'll post back on the video studio thing. Meantime

    Good luck

Well here I am back so soon ...

The Video Studio problem this time.

Looks to me as though you have selected the DV to DVD Wizard from the Video Studio Start up screen. If you wan tto edit your movies then avoid this. Instead select the Video Studio Editor option.

    1. Connect your DV cam and set to play mode.

    2. Select the Capture TAB

    3. I think (I don't have a copy of Video Studio on this PC) there should be a Quick Scan option somehwere with the option to save to the library.

    4. Play about with capture methods and then click the Edit TAB.

Let me know how you get on and feel free to post back as required.

    Good luck

Awesome, thank you so muchy for your reply. I dowloaded both the elements and the pro. I do not think I am ready for the pro yet, but Adobe takes up some serious space...

The only two I was unable to do a trial version was Roxio and Sony? For a newbie to the process of editing which is more user friendly. Out of all of them I tried I have to feel my way around but....

You are really awesome and thank you so much for your help!!!
