Default Canon XM2 vs. Sony VX2100e for extreme sports.

    Hello,

Looking for some camera advice from you funky people.

I'm looking at getting a new camera for videoing Skateboarding and Snowboarding.

I'm boiling it down to two:
    1 - Canon XM2
    2 - Sony VX2100e.
Unless anyone has any good alternatives [max budget 1600].

Can anyone give me any advice on way to go?
Pro's and cons of each would be nice.

Both cameras seem to be about the same price - is this right?
I assume they will be about the same picture quality, please let me know if I'm wrong.

I'm also interested in build quality, and weight.
The camera should be light but built well enough to take the inevitable knocks of close up work.

    Other priorities are;
    -Handle on top. Or attachable.
-Ability to fit wide-angle and fish-eye lenses.
-Handling with gloves on - zoom and other important fcns need to be easy to get to.
    -Compatibility with Adobe Premiere.

    Thanks excitedly,

Nothnig betweeen em really. People say the canon has a better lens giving 'brighter' pics but that the sony has better electronics so you get less 'dv' jaggies and fringes.

Thanks, does anyone know of about the relative 'rugedness' of each camera?

All the reviews say the Sony is built strong, but no mention of strenght in the Canon reviews I've read...

Do any more of you kind people have any comments about either camera?

I'm swaying towards the Sony simply because it's a Sony unless you lot can persuade me otherwise.

Yes, the vx is known to be a tough camera, but really no camera is that tough and all should be treated carefully.

Anyone out there fancy dropping thier vx & xl untill one breaks so we can know for sure ?

ONe thing you might considor, the xl can take cannon lenses of still cameras. If you have a kind friend with lots of lenses it might be fun to try em ?

Personally I dont like the xl, it is a great camera but I dont like the handling qualities, feels very front heavy to use.

Maybe we have our wires crossed.

I'm comparing the Sony VX2100e to the Canon XM2. Not the Canon XL.

Do all of your comments about picture quality still stand?

    Cheers,

Ah, sorry. I think the xm is much nicer to use than the xl, better balanced. Other comments the same. They are both great cameras really. I havent owned both so I couldnt split them.

    AAAARRGG!!!

Still can't decide which camera to get.

    I can get the XM2 for 1450, or the VX2100e for 1600.

Would anyone of you funky people care to make up my mind for me...

I know might start a poll...
