Default Where did my forum go? Way too much editing happening here

Obviously nobody has the guts here to hear the other side.

"Why edit video at all" forum from yesterday is gone.

You have to change your logo from
"a big bunch of video editing stuff"

    to

"a restricted bunch of video editing stuff"

At least this other forum isn't so restrictive.

so much for freedom of speech on this site.

Next thing my membership will be taken away? Oh no!
Is it uncut nature video or a fabrication? To edit or not.

Yes we tend to censor and ban people a lot here.

    You're a troll.

You refuse to listen to the vast, vast, vast majority of people.

If you don't like it, leave.

This thread will self destruct in 24 hours.

Yeah right, how would you know what the majority says.
Just edit out the stuff you don't like or agree with.

Because I read it every day.

And stop sulking. You've been proven wrong by people on here, you've been proven wrong by people on the other forums you use, yet you still refuse to even budge on changing your mind.

I'm all for sticking up for what you believe in, and maybe your way of working suits you, but for the vast majority of amateurs and professionals, fiddling around with footage works for them.

I'm guessing, as you're so perfect in doing everything, your keyboard doesn't have a delete or backspace key then....

Listen Swampy, the site says " a big bunch of editing stuff" at the top. This gives most people a clue as to what we're about. If you want to pick an arguement, then go into your local Irish Pub and sing "God save the Queen" or into your local Jewish Social Centre and start waving the Palestinian flag about.

The bit on this site which proclaims "Video Editing Forums" is also a bit of a hint that it's about editing.

In case you hadn't grasped it, this site is for people to exchange editing information, tips, techniques and so on. We do have disagrements but mainly about editing. Its a site for video editors (getting the message slowly are we?) not a site for non-editing.
So when you turn up and start proclaiming that editing, something we enjoy, is a waste of time, don't be shocked that we can't be bothered to speak to you. Go to a freshwater stream and tell the fisherman that they're wasting their time, or that golfers would be better off doing something else. It's fun for us, got that?
If you've found a site where you feel at home, then go there. If you want to provoke and annoy us, just for the fun of it, please don't, we are quite happy here thank-you.

There is a thin line between editing and censorship.

I'm sure, the casual surfer, finding this site would think,
what a great resource for video nuts.
    And it is.

The real issue here, is edit or not to edit at all.

Shooting tons of video and not-editing it, over the last 3 years,
gives me a perspective, that none of your resident experts have.

Digital video, changed the whole concept of editing.
With computers, you can start and stop anywhere in a video,
    without ever manipulating the original.

Most people are buying a camcorder, to shoot and playback video.

That same surfer, visiting this site looking for unbiased information,
    wouldn't find it.
They would come away thinking, the only way to get good video,
is to get into video editing and that just ain't so.

The forum bullies, intimidate them, by ridiculing newbies or people
with new or different ideas. Bullies do that.

In my mind that is censorship plain and simple.

It's about time, someone came into your pub and called BS.
Is it uncut nature video or a fabrication? To edit or not.

This is getting out of hand i think.

I'm not sure I personally agree with the particular thread being removed is the best thing. However, and I mean this respectfully, you have come along with a rather large chip on your shoulder, intimating that we must all be completely mad because we believe (and I most certainly do) that editting video is simply not required.

I personally do not believe that you possess a single miniDV tape (or whatever media you actually use) that will not benefit from some editing of some description.

However, I do accept that there is room and scope for some input from you. This is a video editing site/forum and coming along with the tone you have admonishing us for it will, inevitably, have you labelled a troll. From this point of view I have to agree with removing the thread because it serves no purpose on the forum whatsoever.

What I do think, though, is that through your personal experience you may have a set of best practices or guidelines on how to achieve the best from your video camera without the need to edit on a computer. I'm sure there are many people out there with mini DVD camcorders who simply want to shoot and watch. Some guidelines to help those might have benefit so if you care to write some best practices or guidelines and post them the correct forum we have (and there is one) then anyone who is like minded will appreciate them I'm sure.

But, you must appreciate that the type of people who frequent these forums are, by definition, the people who believe editing on a computer to be very necessary.

I for one, though, would be very interested to read whatever you have to offer. I consider myself fairly open minded and a different perspective is always welcome. I'm not convinced you will convert many (if any) people but I'm happy for you to have your say as long as it is said constructively.

Hear hear! Absolutely spot on Alan. Couldn't have put it better myself. I kind of hinted at that angle in the original thread, but it seemed to get overlooked.

You really have far to much time on your hands - maybe you should spend some of it editing?

I refuse to spend much time on this but will start by saying I've reinstated your original thread. If you think that's the meaning of freedom of speech, I'll pass on your thoughts to those living in China and North Korea.

Nothing gets deleted. It gets shipped off to a private area for review should one of the admins flag it up as SPAM / against the TOS of the site. I moved it yesterday because I'm fairly confident you just want to shit stir. You've taken an extreme view of something we're all passionate in, expecting us to bite.

That's the last I'll say on the matter.
