    Default Panasonic 3ccd camcorder GS400

I have an XL 1 which I plan to sell and buy one of these, I hope I have the model number correct, it maybe sold elsewhere under a different name?
I have been out of video for 4 years now and might restart, would like to know what this cam is like? apologies to Sony fans but I happen to like Panasonic Camcorders, I have had such a good run with them
    thanks

Why would you sell an XL1 to get a GS400?

I had a video business in Australia before settling here in France, and found the XL1 produces a superb image but find it not a good point and shoot camera, so i hardly ever used it, better as a tripod based indoor cam imho, too front heavy and the auto focus and exposure a bit tricky, I mainly used small Panasonic single ccd cams, which I still have one of, and the MS5 which was a wonderful workhorse, I haven't used the cam for 3 years now, being retired its time for the vacation videos :o but I still want a quality image; last time I checked the DX 100? was a current model
    thanks

Well, comfort and simplicity is the name of the game for casual shooters, so I agree with you on that.

The NV GS400 is an excellent cam, with a good set of features and manual controls, which can be adjusted on the fly, rather than having to stop shooting and reset.

It gives good quality low light video, and includes Zebra to warn of overexposure, It is also pretty solid and will take a knock or 2.

It could do with a bit more optical zoom 12x is only standard at best, but it loses very little quality at 24x digital, the filter thread is 43mm which is a bit of an awkward size for buying conversion lenses, Panasonic do make them of course, but filters seem easy to get hold of.

They are currently available for about 700, a bargain(1400 back when I got mine). What else can you get for that money, that has 1/4.7 3CCD setup and this feature set.

I know what you mean about the xl1 being front heavy. All that quality glass unbalances the camera in my view. I considored one untill I used one. Also for some reason I always think of it as the pornographers choice, not that there is anything wrong with that of course.
