Default New to video editing, need advice on capturing software

Does it make a difference what software you use for basic editing
or video quality when captured as DV/AVI ?

What I have is XP’s “movie maker” and Adobe Premier 4.2 trial

(DVC Panasonic PV-GS19, capturing via 1394)

Some would argue that there's quality differentials between different DV codecs. For what you're doing, you won't notice a difference.
