    Default The lttle things in life

    I've just spent the last 3 hours trying to establish a GPRS connection on my PDA via my phone (previously I'd done this using a CF Modem). I'd spent hours trying all kinds of hacks and tricks from hundreds of sites. I tried incremental changes to one setting, until eventually I gave up and decided to use normal WAP; I set up the connection, but it connected to the GPRS one (or at least tried to). I then deleted the GPRS connection and yet mysteriously my PDA still tried to connect to it. Hmm, it was doing the impossible.

    So I figured either I'm breaking the laws of physics, or I have another connection somewhere. Yep, it was the latter. Took one look at the connection, saw what was wrong and hey presto I was connected.

    GPRS = General Packet Radio Service (Or Enhanced WAP)
    GPS = Global Positioning System

    I combine them both in my car to get the latest traffic reports and (theoretically) avoid jams.

    I got left behind a little with my version of Tomtom. I didn't realise I was still using version 3 until I tried installing it on my new PDA. More expense!

    But yes, I agree that not having the fully featured postcode search was a pain... more often than not I would have to cross reference my destination displayed with multimap to ensure I had the correct location before starting.

    Anyways, I have now ordered the latest version. As I say, upgrading my Pocket PC has been a lot more expensive than I anticipated (I wanted to lose all the wires in my car, so every connection is now bluetooth - PDA > Mobile > GPRS. But I'm planning to write a few reviews and guides out of it, so hopefully others will benefit!
