Default My video editing programs keep crashing!

    Hi guys,

There is some 45 minutes of handy cam footage that I have to edit and save. I installed Pinnacle Studio 9, but when I tried to import the video it came up with an error message and closed itself afterwards. I uninstalled and reinstalled it again, but it had the exact same problem.

So I installed Ulead video studio 8, from a CD. This one didnít even open. When I double click it, the mouse pointer gets busy for 2 seconds, but nothing happens afterwards. The few times that it does open, it has the same problem as Pinnacle Studio. Iíve uninstalled and reinstalled this one too, but to no avail

    Any help is appreciated guys.

My computer has 1 Gb of RAM, and a 3.4 GHz processor.

If im not mistaken Handy cam is an analog camera? What are you using to capture the video?

My camera is a Sony Digital Handy cam. (uses Hi 8 tapes)
First I transferred the tape to my comp by recording it through my analogue TV tuner card, and then import the finished file into the video editing program.

I have also tried capture to the handy cam footage using different VE programs straight through the Tuner card.

In both cases the programs crash.

Btw thanks for the quick response!

Have you been able to load the files on to your computer?? If you have try doing a quick check, try uploading the same clips to windows movie maker (should be somewere under accesories if you have a pc).

Windows Movie Maker works fine. I've captured and imported files with it before.

But when it comes to the more sofisticated programs, they crash both with imports and captures. It doesn't matter what file it is too, I've tried a number of videos, small and large.

Hmmmm...thats weird. Try importing into windows movie maker and exporting as a different format, that would be very time consuming though

    Good news!
I bought a little USB device to transfer videos to computer and the VE programs seem to be ok capturing video through that.

Right now I have the entire video captured. I just have to edit it.
    Thanks again for the help

There are better quality solutions, but if you're happy, we're happy...

Internal (PCI) capture cards (e.g. Pinnacle Studio AV/DV), or Firewire A2D converters (e.g. Canopus ADVC100) offer the best quality transfer for analog recordings, minimising degradation. USB devices suck big time - but they're cheaper. So in the end, you get what you pay for.
