Default importing sound effects to premiere pro

    Hi folks,

As you probably know, sound is not my strong point (speshally voice-overs). I've just downloaded a whole bunch of short sound effects for use in my projects. Whooshes and button sounds etc

They are from a variety of royalty free sites that came up when googled.

All of them play in media player and quicktime....but when I import them into Prem pro, some of them dont play on the timeline!?! Some do though.

Its not format...some are mp3, some wav. And prem pro does the conform audio thing when I import....could it be cos the audio clips are very short < 1sec???

they dont play in the preview monitor either

    Any ideas???

Could you upload one of the files that doesn't work?

If you can then I'll give it a go as I work with sound and computers extensively in my job.

    Default not really

I've used putfile to host afew sound fx here

    Putfile

    and here

    putfile

.....but they disable the right click....so you cant download and work with them

Cant remember where I found them in the first place, I was just googling around collecting fx. Could I email them to you as a zipped attachment?
This is the first time I've ever had probs with Prem pro.

They may be labelled 'wav', but that doesn't tell the whole story. I recommend you convert the offending files to a WAV file with no compression. These will load into Premiere I assure you.

Try what Marc suggests. As he says a .Wav doesn't tell the whole story. It could still be compressed using ADPCM or the like.

I'll PM you with my email address so you can send me a copy of the file.

    Default thanks

Yup! thanks marc, I converted them to wavs with some freeware from download.com and PP now recognises and plays them.

In addition to this issue I tried exactly the same sounds that PurpleTurtle emailed to me and I had exactly the same problem in Prem Pro and couldn't hear them.

Weird, but converting them sorted it out.
