Default image size prob when importing JPG into Premiere Pro...

Using Premiere Pro 1.5, when I insert a high res. digital photo into the movie, the resulting image is Magnified, so that I am only seeing a magnified view of the center of the photo. I have tried to go into the 'effect controls / motion' window and manipulate the scale, and while the image comes down to the right size, alot of the resolution is gone, and the image quality is very low.

I have tried many other things, such as trying to resize the image to 720x480 using a third party software like IRFANVIEW, but the results were a very grainy image.

Any thoughts on what I am not grasping with this?
    thanks,

Take the image into paint, go:

    Image>Sketch and Skew

Put in a percent,. such as 25. for only horizontal and vertical.
Then save as something other than JPG (try BMP), and then import it into your video.

    Hopefully that will work.

Thank you Baluk, I sketch/skewed it to 62% size and saved it as a .png file and this brought things nicely to size and the resolution was far better than what I was having happen, not perfect though.

    Preciate the help!

Resizing a hi-res pic using the "Motion" --> "Scale" setting in prem pro should work just fine without a loss in resolution. Have you rendered after adjusting the size?

To save having to do this each time, go to "Project Settings", and check the box marked "resize stills to project size" (or words to that effect).
