Thread: avi. in vegas - Unsure of codec

  1. Default avi. in vegas - Unsure of codec

Im having problems putting avi's into vegas. I thought i read somewhere about applying/installing certain codecs to make them work in vegas but i cannot remember what. If someone has some information on how to make the avis work in vegas, that would be great. Right now all it will load is an audio track but then no sound. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Are these DV avis? If so you need a dv codec on your system.

Its from a Japanese anime cartoon that i want to splice together. I installed the codec you provided for me, and that didnt do the trick. As soon as i attempt to apply the episode to vegas 4.0 it pops up with an error message reading " An error ocurred during your current application An error ocurred while opening a codec". Now what can i do to make these work in Vegas? I think i may have to many codecs on my computer, but how do i go about to see where they are, and also delete the unnecessary ones. All HElp will be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Whenever a video doesn't play in an NLE, the easiest solution is to convert to DV AVI first. As always, I point to question 10 of the FAQ.

After attempting to apply the file to virtualdubmob, it will not even open it in there either. Anymore suggestions? All help more than welcome for options to fix/learn how to do this.

    Thanks,

Does it even open up in Media Player?

Opens in media player, just for some reason i cant get it to open in vegas or in virtualdubmob. Here is the link for the show if you feel you want to dl it and work it on your own. You will need torrent software of some sort in order to get any of the episodes listed.

Really doesnt matter which episode, i beleive they are all in the same format.
Let me know how it goes, or what you have done to make it work. I have wanted to edit these for a long time. I was goin to get dr. divx and just go that route to make it where i can modify it and then throw it in vegas, but i was hoping there was a better way.

    Thanks,
    Matt

What is the file extension of the file? Maybe it is a weird codec or is packed in a weird way.

From what i can tell they are all just .avi, if there is another place i should look for the information you need, tell me how and i will give it to you. If i hit the properties option, audio format is mpeg-layer 3. Video is (Data) 109 kbps Frame rate - 29 fps
Get back to me so we can solve this.

    Thanks,
    Matt

The site says the videos are encoded with DivX 5.0.1. Download Gspot to confirm this. There is no reason why the video should not open up in VirtualDub if this is the case to be honest.

This isn't really an area in which the forum specialises. If you would like expert help on this kind of stuff (converting and ripping stuff that isn't your own), I recommend www.videohelp.com
