    Default Cameraq purchase advise

    Hi,
I want to get a mini-dv in the price range of around $ 3500-$4000 US dollars. After some research, I'm so far decided on the Canon XL2. It will be used for everything from corporate inside sales videos to home videos. If anyone can give input on this camera or suggested others in the price range, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

As good a camera as the XL2 is, I think I made the right choice by going high-def with my new camera. I suggest you futureproof yourself. Look at the new high def version of the XL2 or maybe one of the sony offerings. Z1E?

McGill's not wrong - if you're buying new you gotta go Hi Def cos

    (a) you'll kick yourself 10 years from now if your old home videos are only in Standard Def
    (b) HD cams tend to do SD better than SD cams, especially if you shoot in HD and downscale to SD in post
    (c) HD video on a big plasma at point-of-sale is stunningly good - corporates will love it !
    (e) if you care about good images (shouldn't we all ?) then you have to have HD
    (g) I could go on and on ..

I recommend the Z1/FX-1, but Canon is always good - don't fret about specs - just buy one and get shooting HD
