Default Converting H.264 codecs so they play well on media composer

Hi, Do I just use something like mpeg streamclip to convert to .mov when trying to convert a codec that avid does not like to something it will like? I'm having lots of difficulties editing using this codec but I'm trying to find the best converter.

    Any advice appreciated.

Handbrake is the usual "go-to" for video conversion. It's free, it's good and it has loads of options: www.handbrake.fr
