I know this will seem churlish, and I might incur the wrath of some. But.
Isn't the US capable of dealing with this? The richest nation on Earth?
Not like the Tsunami disaster at all. Money doesn't seem to be the issue here like it was in Thailand. It's more the motivation of the US Government to actually do something.
I don't disagree with the need for money, just the fact the US doesn't need to use a begging bowl.
I'll stand against the wall now and wait for the stoning shall I?
Actually, i think i agree with you. The US probably need more moral motivation rather than financial. It does make you feel good when you donate though

For sure. When the recipient actually needs it. Don't get me wrong, I do have enormous sympathy, and I find the actions (as edited by TV news) of the police etc despicable. But will the money reach the deprived? I seriously doubt it. It will pay for supplies that the government can easily afford anyway.Originally Posted by seymore

its actually really sad this - the fact that the worlds biggest super power have screwed up so so soooo badly
Hell, I live in the USA and I'm not going to donate anything. More than 75% of the money that we're spending on this is for helicopters/boats/other rescue stuff to rescue the IDIOTS who decided "Oh, a class 5 hurricane? No problem! I'll just sit here and hope I don't die!"
The state of Lousiana issued an order that all residents of New Orleans (where the hurricane would hit hardest) were to get out of the city. Over 10,000 people stayed, and now we have to spend millions of dollars getting them out. I say, screw them. Let them get themselves out of this mess.

I tend to agree with everyone on this. Even though I'm American, there's just too much about this country that's too dissappointing to make me very patriotic.
I am extremely surprised at the amount of agreement on this. I thought I would be exiled to Siberia for even suggesting not donating.
