Default Advice Needed on MP3 Downloads and Sources

Okay, I 'm looking for music for some videos. I have the software to convert them from MP3 to wav files, what I don't have is the music, mainly from 70s albums which are not available on CD.

So, can anyone recommend a site where I can download music, but not where I have to upload files from my collection in return. (In other words not filesharing).

I'm more than willing to pay for the music (the subsequent video is purely for home use, so no copyright ramblings, rants or raves please) but would like to hear from anyone who has found a reliable site, with music from the "past" (ie not just current chart stuff) and which can be trusted with my credit card details.

as to whether the downloads are "legal" or not... I'll worry about that.

Downloaded music files from the likes of itunes will contain DRM. That means a no go for including in your presentations unless you circumvent.

I'm sure someone will PM you a few links

That's my opinion. If you don't like it I have others

System: Apple Macbook Pro 17, and an external Freecom 500GB eSATA drive.
Software: Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 6, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2, Color, DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor 3), Sonicfire Pro 4.5
Favourite Resources: Findsounds.com, Free DVD menus, Ken Stone's FCP Page, Wikivid

    Reality check time!

The idea is to take super 8 footage, old video, stills and other media and mix it together with sounds of the seventies for a DVD to be shown at a friend's birthday party and then given to him as a present.

So, I'm only interested in copyright protection, DRMs and suchlike if it's going to physically stop me using the music.

What I'd still like to know is...

Where are the sites with "older" music available for downloading?

...and my PM seems to be US so, pls e-mail if you don't want to post it on an open forum... ta!

Look at some of the usenet news groups, like:

    nntp://alt.binaries.sounds.1970s.mp3

    and

    nntp://alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.1970s

Should be plenty of old stuff on them.
