    Default Firewire connections

I have just got a new hard drive and DVD writer that can both be connected by Firewire. My laptop has only one firewire connection but each of the machines has a firewire pass through connection. I am going to have to piggyback these machines but will there be any problems if I am trying to write/read from both of them at the same time? Both of them also have USB 2.0 ports at well although I would rather stay with firewire.

Couple more questions - I have read that firewire is a peer-to-peer product. Does this answer my own question? If I connect my dvd writer to my laptop and my hard drive to my dvd writer, will they then talk to each other directly? And does a firewire hub do the same thing?

Can you provide an answer to my question above?
