    Default Mini DV playback decks

    Hi everyone

This is a great forum and I'm glad I've joined, I have two questions for you all. Does anyone know of a 'cheap' mini dv playback deck? All the ones I've seen are around 1300 to 1400 stg. I'm just looking for something with playback, rewind and fastforward along with a Firewire output on the back.
Also what are your experiences of using tape head cleaners? It looks like I'll have to start using one on my Panasonic but I've heard some scare stories about them making the problems worse rather than better.

    Thanks.

unfortunately thats' what they cost - try ebay to pick one up second hand. They are a bit of a waste of money though unless you are a producer working in the field. - I just use a camera to view em back.

Thanks for the reply, but are you not concerned about the wear and tear on the tape heads with all the rewinding and fast forwarding? I'm sure it's alright for short pieces but if you have recorded footage onto three or four tapes from some event or holiday, would you not be worried about that. I've always considered the camera as the capture device and not really the playback deck aswell. Yes, I will certainly give eBay a look.

A consumer level cam is worth less than a DV deck. It's a case of economics. Moreover, and with technology changing rapidly, the camera will noty doubt be defunct before the heads wear out.

I know I'd rather buy a second cam than a DV deck.
