Thread: MSP 12 and rendering settings and performance

Default MSP 12 and rendering settings and performance

    I have this imported media

    i.e. 50FPS 1080P

but when I come to render it, I get the 50i options offered as preferred

If I render AVCHD 1920X1080 50i it takes 450 secs to do a 70 sec clip.
If I render same but 50p it takes the same length of time.
The above is a i7-970, 24GB RAM, graphics card not used to help.

Another person I know is using Final Cut Pro and says that renders faster than real time, on a Mac laptop! How is that possible?

The rendering time will depend on what changes you have made to the original file, Your hardware, the condition of your operating system, how full your hard drives are and a number of other things.

By the way don't listen to Apple bragging and think PC's are rubbish. It's not true any more except if your an Apple user then it is true.

Can anyone guess why MSP is offering a 50i export setting when the media is 50P?

Whilst your source footage is 50P what are your project settings? The "=" settings match that rather than source (which may be from several different soources)

    Ah, yes, well spotted!

However if I change the project settings to 50fps

I now see nothing at all marked with the = sign in the render menu, which is strange since I clearly do have such render options

I wonder what the Project Settings config actually does, given that you can import "anything" and then Render As "anything"?

    Can't help you there.

I believe it's to do with how it treats it for playback in the preview window.

It seems you can import anything and you can render it as anything.

So where might there be a huge performance hit?

I can see if you imported 320x240 and rendered it as 1920x1080 or something else dumb like that. But here I am going 1920x1080 50FPS and rendering the same. The bit rates obviously won't be the same. The FDR-1000V camera "PS" mode is 50mbits/sec and Vegas cannot be set to more than 25 mbits/sec so a "lossless" render will never be possible, but nothing I do affects the render speed.

Don't forget to change the field order in the project properties to None (Progressive) if you have 50p footage not 50i footage.
What problem are you trying to solve ?

I typed a reply and it vanished when I pressed the Reply button

Basically rendering times are running about 3x slower than real time no matter what I do. CPU-only or CUDA make no difference even though the video cards supports CUDA. Something strange is going on.

I typed a longer reply and it vanished when I pressed Send.

Re CPU and GPU, Dr Zen probably just had the most likely answer for you in your similar MSZ forum thread.

Re replies vanishing, I used to get that with longer replies, if I forgot to check "Remember me".
