Next month, on May 28th, 2016, I am finally retiring from the U.S. Government and we will be returning to our family home in Wayne County, West Virginia. My boss in Washington asked me late last week to prepare a two-minute video presentation for his boss for a briefing tomorrow. The video needed to show the major equipment and systems of the overseas transmitting station I have managed in Kuwait for the last ten years. I told him my editing equipment and video file library were already packed for shipping, but then I remembered I had a few old files on my office terminal and I have a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro on my laptop. So, I told him I would do what I could.
I found enough good clips to string together a basic presentation, but I really needed some aerial footage to do it justice. Unfortunately, my DJI Phantom 2+ drone was also packed, but one of my employees had just purchased a new Phantom 4 with a 4K camera. I was stunned by the resolution and picture quality and gladly added a few of his clips to the mix. I also found footage from a movie project I started to make a few years ago, but the project came to naught because of staff transfers. But it was fun and a first venture into VFX.
I'm going to be much more active at film making in retirement, once all my equipment arrives back home in West Virginia. So, until then, here is my final video from Kuwait:
