Thread: Snowboarding in Switzerland 2016

  1. Red face Snowboarding in Switzerland 2016

Recently went snowboarding at Flims in Switzerland with the hubby. This is my first video edit so any constructive critique is welcomed

Some footage of getting your gear into the trunk could have added variety at the beginning.
A bit of a voiceover may have added value.
Wasn't a fan of the dodge angle at 1:05.
Camerawork was a bit shaky from time to time.
1:55 check your camera lens as often as you can when you do winter sports. The scene is way too long especially for what you can actually see.
    Honestly consider wearing helmets.
The slope footage is a bit repetitive. Try to get more angles (e.g. from the lifts) there. I am currently editing my own skiing video so I may be able to give you a reference in a day or two.
I liked the snowball as finishing shot but again not the dodge angle.
You tried to have a nice variety of shots but overall it was a bit lengthy. Too many "nonsense scenes" if I may say so.
It looks like a nice resort. Maybe I should give it a visit one day

Broadly agree with XXLRay (in fact I think he's picking my brains before I've even watched)
For me the best shots were the real time ones rather.
I like speeding up stuff but here it didn't always seem to be with a purpose (for example attaching the board to the boots is not interesting sped up or in real time).
On the other hand the sped up shots of the two of you in the car give a good indication of your characters.
I don't like the fish eye look to many of the shots.

    Hey!
    Thanks for your feedback!
I share your opinion about the dodge angle, I could not get it changed in imovie not sure why... the idea with getting our gear in the trunk is great, it was my first video so I missed a lot of great opportunities because my "camera eye" is not very trained
You should try Skiing or Snowboarding in Switzerland, it's great!
I would love to see your video!

    Hi Tim!
Thank you for your feedback! Much appreciated!
I think the fish eye look is from the GoPro, not sure if I can change this since it had to be in its container to be protected. Will try to figure it out.

Have a nice day and greetings from Switzerland

I believe there are plug-ins available for most editors that sort this out.

    I enjoyed it

    the colors were great

    the music worked

i don't like the "GoPro on a stick" viewpoint, but short of having a drone follow you I guess that's pretty much what you can do

Thank you for checking it out and your comment!
We just saw the drone version, looks amazing but it is also very expensive. Will think about that investment once i get better at it

    Greetings from Switzerland!

The problem with using drones on a ski hill is that you'll inevitably get some wet blanket come along and give you a hard time because "your drone broke my nan's dentures" or "I ran into a tree trying to avoid your stupid drone" or some such - makes me so mad - I wonder how people manage to get on with their lives sometimes
