Thread: help with a very rare jazz recording

Default help with a very rare jazz recording

So yes, im this kind of music addicted.

A couple of weeks ago i laid my hands on a very rare vinyl copy of a concept album.
Since the owner of this very copy was irreducible on selling me it, i managed to borrow it from him so a friend of mine could digitalise it for me.
The problem is that the file came as one long 37 min track with all of the 6 musics in it.
As i used audacity to dismember this file, i had a huge quality loss even when using the best encoding quality.
For the average person, this quality loss could go unnoticed, but for me this issue kills the entire work, and this can not fucking happen.

So, i came here humbly to ask for your help in this matter.
What can be done? How do i do it?
If you need the original file, for the delight of your music taste, try editing it, or just out of curiosity, just message me!
    thank you in advance!

Which encoding options did you exactly choose for the exported files?

im sorry if i annoyed you with my lack of objectivity.
how does your interpelation help with the post?

    XXLRay
i used ffmpeg 2.2.2 to export the tracks as .flac too, selecting the lenght of each track and using the command "export selected" in Audacity.
i even chose the larger file size when asked.

    thanks for your interest

i do accept suggestions, i used flac because it is a lossless format, but if you do believe that wav will work better, i can give it a try!
is there anything in the process i used that can be changed to have a better result? any other software, method..?

    thanks for your response!

This "audio CD" standard consumes approximately 10 MB of disk space on a computer for each minute of audio. In comparison, some modern formats such as FLAC which are compressed but still lossless, take about 4 MB of space per minute for a comparable file. file.

there must be something in it ! those extra 6 mb (per min) are not for the fun off it

interesting, but i will be gaining quality by extracting a wav from an already more compressed file anyway? the kind of noise that is bugging me is on the quiet moments, where the high frequencies (drum dishes) get very dirty with a kind of interpolation from the next couple of seconds ahead.. i mean, with headphones i can clearly listen in a low volume a distorted advance of a couple seconds ahead, besides the noise
hope i made my problem clear!

    thank you mr enc!

It doesn't, but it should help make it clear that we like to keep it clean round here (at least when there's no reason not to). It's a low enough volume forum as it is without potentially discouraging others.
