Default Chroma Keying - Color Correct a "Non-Red Key".

    Hi all,

I'm using a green screen just to test chroma keying. In After Effects I can get a next-to-perfect key with Keylight, though there is some small green fringing.

If I use the "Non-Red Key" effect in Premiere however, the fringing disappears completely. It would be perfect if it didn't look like I'd been left in the sun for several hours (skin tones are an almost beetroot red).

So I was wondering what to do to get my skin colour back to normal after applying this effect (or another way to get rid of some fringing from the key).

I have played around in Premiere and Speedgrade a little bit, but don't really know what I'm doing so I get an average result at best.

    Thanks for any pointers

The secret to green screen is the physical setup, not the software

you need to have a taut screen with even lighting on it

you also need to be sitting far enough in front of the screen so that your hair doesn't pick up green highlights from behind you - leading to some fringing

alternately you could shave your head

Haha the physical setup is pretty good, though I was a bit close in the test shots (about 3 feet).

I am awaiting delivery of more lights so I can light myself separately and hopefully prevent spill. (I may have used the wrong terminology in the first post, I have no "fringe" - my hair looks perfect and is sexy as hell, I have "spill" in that the green is on the inside of the edge)

That said, I'd still like to know if/how to color correct red skin, as I might not always get to work with perfect shots.

    Thanks

Without seeing your results I'd guess you would add color corrector plugin after your keyer and add/remove to the desired "correct" color. But again, I'm just guessing.
