    Default Bolt Cycling Effects

Alright, so here's the deal, we are getting ready to start up some projects again, but utilizing much more detail than we have in the past, since we're older and we now care. We have a plethora of prop guns we will be using. The only problem with these are: they are props...they do not have a cycling bolt, so we need to add that. I'm not very familiar with doing so.

I can do the shell ejecting and muzzle flash, but I'm stumped on a bolt cycle. Is it just the same concept as a muzzle flash?

Do you have any links/examples of the effect you are wanting to recreate?

Uh, basically anytime you fire a gun, the bolt cycles or on a pistol, the slide cycles.

    Pistol:

When the cartridge is extracted, the slide is moving back and forth.

    Rifle:

Again, when the cartridge is being extracted, the bolt moves backward and forward.

Fast forward to 2:33 and watch his charging handle/bolt cycle backwards then forwards.

That's what I'm trying to accomplish, at least with the rifle. I need to be able to edit in the bolt cycling.

Are you talking about the slide movement? The bolt is actually the pin that hits the bullet's back.
I would do this via clean plate, rotoscoping, overlay and motion tracking

That's the firing pin, the bolt houses the firing pin.

Okay, that's kind of what I thought, but was unsure. I was hoping there was an easier way, but hey...ya' gotta' learn sometime right.

    Thanks for the help!
